WMSL Championships Friday & Saturday

In the A Pool matchups on Firday Arthur handled Whitby 6-1 while Grand River got by Toronto 3-1.  In the B Pool, Niagara outmatched Akwesanse 10-2 on the strength of a 7 point night by Trish John (2g,5a) and 5 helpers from Sarah Simpson (5a).  Meanwhile, Hamilton and London battled to hard-fought 4-4.  London goalie Jax Ripley played an outstanding game, holding off a potent Bengal offence at key moments.

Powerhouse Arthur got off to a good start Saturday morning, easily outgunning Niagara 8-1.  The Aces scoring was spread out with Erin Rooney (2g,1a) topping the point getters with 4 players getting 2 points and 3 more with 1.  In the other morning A Pool game Whitby beat Akwesasne 9-3.

Over on the B side Grand River surprised Hamilton 7-4 while Toronto blanked 3-0 with Zoe Fex picking up the gooseegg.

While Arthur and Grand River punched their ticket to the League A Championship playoff round, the other 6 teams would battle it out to see who could place into the remaining top two positions in each pool.

In the afternoon games, Arthur ran past Akwesasne 8-2, while Niagara punched their ticket to the A semi-finals with a 4-2 win over Whitby.  Hamilton relegated the Toronto Stars to the B semis, with a 6-3 victory.  In the final game of the day, Grand River's defence played up to expectations, stifling London 4-1.
